Pedaling into Aesthetics: The Refuse Indoor Cycling Studio

Guadalajara welcomes a new dimension of indoor cycling with the inception of the “Refuse” studio, a creation by EstudioFernandaOrozco. Spanning 170 square meters and unveiled in 2019, this cycling haven redefines the traditional approach to interior design within fitness spaces.

Inspiration from the Tour de France

At the heart of Refuse’s concept lies inspiration drawn from the iconic Tour de France. Celebrated as the world’s largest cycling race, this athletic spectacle boasts a rich tradition and multicultural vibrancy, encapsulated in its colorful posters from the 1920s to the 1950s.

Aesthetic Challenge: Color, Light, and Material Fusion

Refuse challenges the conventional aesthetics of cycling studios through a meticulous integration of color, light sources, and materials. The interior design strategically emphasizes the grueling kilometers traversed in the Tour de France. Exposed concrete ceilings symbolize the endurance of the race, while concrete-clad walls and doors create a motivational and dynamic ambiance for users.

Stages of Experience: Mimicking the Tour de France Journey

Similar to the Tour de France, Refuse is segmented into stages. The reception area, adorned in the brand’s subdued colors, features three-level stands reminiscent of a podium—a space for cyclists to congregate before and after their challenges. Progressing into the preparation area, colors intensify, and urban materials create an energetic environment. Illuminated mirrors, geometric shapes, and distinct colors in the bathrooms amplify the transition into the cycling studio. A tunnel of lights beckons participants to embrace the impending challenge.

The Dark Challenge: A Play of Lights

Entering the cycling studio, participants are enveloped in darkness, where a captivating play of deconstructed lights serves as both motivation and a visual spectacle. The mantra, “Refuse to stop!” becomes a resounding call to give one’s all, pushing boundaries without the desire to halt.

Refuse Indoor Cycling Studio stands not only as a fitness destination but as an artistic fusion of athleticism and design innovation. EstudioFernandaOrozco has successfully crafted an immersive environment that transcends the conventional gym experience, inviting cyclists to embark on a journey inspired by the resilience and vibrancy of the Tour de France.
